The Qashqai are accomplished weavers who use a variety of techniques to make their containers, covers, animal trappings, and carpets. The workmanship in this small weaving is of superior quality. The care and attention with which it was woven indicates that it probably was made as a container for the weaver’s own small, personal belongings. Traditional vegetal dyes have been used to produce the blue, yellow, and red colors, whereas the orange dye is probably synthetic, which means that cannot be older than the twentieth century.
