The Hajji Baba Club Research Fellowship, 2024-2025

The Hajji Baba Club Research Fellowship supports primary research in the field of carpet studies.

Eligibility

Applicants may be pre-doctoral candidates, hold a PhD, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience. Pre-doctoral candidates must be registered currently in a PhD program at an accredited university. Ineligible are residents of countries with which the U.S. has no direct diplomatic relations, applicants with commercial projects, and members of the HBC Board of Directors or Research Fellowship Committee.

Materials required in PDF format:

  • An original, independent research proposal in English (max. 2,500 words) including:
    • A description of the project
    • A research budget, including travel. The fellowship cannot support overhead costs, such as rent, nor tuition fees.
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A writing sample
  • A list of other fellowships that may be held concurrently with the HBC Research Fellowship
  • Contacts for three references
  • Graduate transcripts (pre-doctoral candidates only)

Deadline

Materials should be sent to: fellowship@hajjibaba.org by 5:00 PM EST April 30, 2024. The Fellow will be announced in June 2024.

Terms of Award

The Fellowship period is from September 2024 – June 2025, during which the Fellow may call themself “The Hajji Baba Club Fellow.” Fellows are obliged to notify the Hajji Baba Club if they change institutions, if the project changes substantially, or if they cannot realize the project during the fellowship period.

Fellows will submit an interim report (by February 28, 2025) and final report (by July 31, 2025) detailing their research activities and expenditures. Fellows will give a lecture in the Hajji Baba Club lecture series in person or online during or following their fellowship period. Any publication of the research supported by the HBC Research Fellowship should cite the support of the Hajji Baba Club, Inc., New York. The fellowship award for 2024-2025 is $7,500 USD.
